Step-by-Step Procedure
- Grasp the suture at mid-length using the forceps
- Under direct laparoscopic vision with adequate pneumoperitoneum, position the fascial closure instrument into subcutaneous tissue adjacent to the trocar cannula
- Ensure the instrument incorporates all tissue layers as it enters the peritoneal cavity
- Release the suture within the cavity
- Remove the instrument while leaving adequate suture loop in the peritoneal cavity and sufficient extracorporeal tails
- Reinsert the fascial closure instrument (without suture) on the opposite side of the trocar cannula under direct vision
- Position into subcutaneous tissue, incorporating all tissue layers
- Grasp and retrieve the suture with the instrument
- Remove the instrument - the forceps securely hold the suture during removal
- Following trocar removal, tie the suture in standard fashion
